Your interview, step by step
The citizenship test is not a separate exam in a classroom. It happens during your naturalization interview with a USCIS officer, usually in one visit.

🧠 Memory hook · Truco de memoria“Talk · Read · Write · Civics”The four things the officer checks. Your speaking is tested the whole time you talk about your application. Hablar, leer, escribir y civismo.
1.2
Which test do I take?
It depends on the date USCIS received your Form N-400, and for some people, on age and years as a permanent resident.
👆 Answer two questions · Responde dos preguntas
1. When did USCIS receive your N-400? ¿Cuándo recibió USCIS tu N-400?
2. Your age and years as a permanent resident Tu edad y años como residente
This is general information from USCIS study materials, not legal advice. Your officer applies the rules to your case. A medical disability exception (Form N-648) can also apply; ask an attorney or accredited representative.
🧠 Memory hook · Truco de memoria“20 asked · 12 to pass · 9 to stop”Think of a soccer game score: you need 12 goals before they score 9.
1.3
The English test
Reading: you read one sentence out of up to three. Writing: you write one sentence the officer reads to you, out of up to three. Speaking: the officer listens as you answer questions about your application. Small mistakes are fine if the meaning is clear.
🧠 Memory hookThe reading and writing sentences use the same civics words you study here: President, Congress, vote, freedom, citizens, flag, Washington. Studying civics is also studying English.

Your study plan
Choose how many weeks you have until your interview. The plan spreads the 128 questions so you finish with time to practice.
👆 Choose your weeks · Elige tus semanas
🧠 How to remember moreSay it out loud. The test is oral, so practice with your voice, not only your eyes. Study 15 minutes a day instead of 3 hours on Sunday. Review yesterday's questions before learning new ones.
